Hi Great tool. I have uploaded a free app to Google play using apptomarket version 4. Now I want to upload an update. I do not remember my keystore user/alias/password and it seems I have not saved config. Is there a way to know keystore name, user/alias and password?

Hello Hossein. You keep coming up with loads of brilliant stuff – keep it up, I’m sure you are very much appreciated. I am working with AI2 Live Complete! but I don’t have anywhere near the number of Palette tools that you have. (I know that these are constantly in development by you and others.) Are they available anywhere? Should I download a fresher version of AI2 Live Complete or must I/we all be more patient? (Personally, I am eagerly waiting to see a ‘Login with Facebook’ tool, but that’s just me.) With kindest regards, Simon.

Hi Hossein. I was wondering if I can use this to publish my upadated Ai2LiveComplete app in the Google Play store. The app on the Playstore was build with appinventor.mit.edu(ai2)…And the apps made with AiLiveComplete have a different keystore….

Can apptomarket fix this? What do you suggest I do? Thank you .
So far Ai2Live Complete is outstanding !
      Thanks.

        May 11, 2014 at 10:33 am

For this purpose, you don’t need AppToMarket. Follow below steps:
        1. Export your AiLiveComplete keystore and ARCHIVE IT AWAY
        2. Export your MIT AI keystore, create copy and KEEP AN ARCHIVE OF IT
        3. Import into AiLiveComplete, the keystore that was exported from MIT AI

        You are done.

    Hi Hossein,
AI should be paying YOU for this its the bridge between AI and Google play that help s everyone make the step from hobbyist to basic developer. I’m always amazed at the generosity of developers such as you who create great solutions. App To Market is the Application that should have been officially created by AI/Google. The big ‘G’ guys make so much money off the back of android developers (30%) on each purchase – surely they could share the good fortune and allow AI users a little leeway.

    Big Thanks.

I’m running v3.1 and everything is awesome so far for me I love it except for one thing it dose not change the app name when it packages and I install the .apk on my phone. It always seems to be the AI name not the changed one I put in. I must be doing it wrong.

Jack, This means that you ARE NOT using the same keystore that you initially used when you published your app. For app upgrades, you HAVE TO use the same keystore to re-sign your app.

    • M. Hossein Amerkashi

      June 5, 2012 at 9:32 am

      Ktrina,
You HAVE TO use the same kestore / cert to sign the app that you are upgrading. Even if you create another keystore with exact info and id / pwd, it won’t work. Have you checked your recycle bin to see if you can restore?

    Hi Mr. Hossein,

I recently built an Android app using AppInventor. But it takes about 8-10 secs for the app to load and display after clicking on its launch icon. During this duration it displays a Black blank screen. How can I avoid this or try displaying a message ..something like ‘Loading..Please wait’
I tried using Splash Screen but it didn’t resolve the problem.
The Splash Screen displays after the 8-10 secs gap..
Can you kindly suggest what best can be done..

    Regards,
    Sreedhar

      May 11, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Unfortunately, that’s the problem with AI.
Do you have a media app and you have like mp3 or lots of graphics?
If so, you have to bring down the size of your app. Couple of options:
      1. Store your media files in cloud and when app initially installs, display splash screen, inform user that you are downloading files. When files are downloaded, store a flag into tinydb. Trade of for this is that user has to wait for files to download, BUT, your app can start-up faster
      2. If you know java, you can use sdk OR you can use sdkBridger HERE — see the wiki for what sdkBridger is.

Thank you for the excellent program, there is the question of how to remove the line AndroidManifest.hml , uses-permission android:name=”android.permission.INTERNET”
access to the internet my program which is App Inventor in no need

This feature is not available in current version. I may add it in the next version. You can put in a feature request HERE. Keep in mind that the permission was put in there for a reason so if it is removed, it may cause issue.

    Hello M.Hossein,
I used the App inventor with no problems. When I went to download the file to my computer it insisted I do so as a APK file. Well, I did and my PC could not open. I tried changing it to a zip and could not. I downloaded some “APK Maestro” opening device. That was worthless. I did some investigating with the “APK Maestro” and found out it is Malware.
I ran Spybot and uncovered 17 Bots, etc. I removed them from my system and everything is fine now. Basic4Android seems to be a great alternative? Your thoughts?

The .apk is dalvik executable code. Not sure why you are trying to open the file. The .apk that is generated by App Inventor IS NOT publishable to Android Market. AppToMarket will do auto-coversion and will make your AI .apk publishable to Android Market. You can join my App Inventor / AppToMarket forum (see below) for any questions that you may have.

Okay. As you said, just rename to .zip and then use like winrar to unzip or explore. Also, if you want to keep back-up copies, make sure you download source from AI also.

    Hello again M.Hossein,
Thank you for getting back so soon. I will register soon to your site. I have two more questions.
Do you think that MIT will open the way to have the App Inventor already able to go to market?
Also, if the App Inventor APK doesn’t produce Java, how can you convert it to market?
    Thanks,
    Ray from Florida

Re: Do you think that MIT will open the way to have the App Inventor already able to go to market?
MIT is currently trying to get a stable version up and running without adding much new features. This is their priority. They may add enhancements (e.g. direct upload to market) in future

Re: if the App Inventor APK doesn’t produce Java, how can you convert it to market?

Yes, AppToMarket just makes your app publishable to android market. You set pricing when you sign in developer console.

    I have a problem 😦
The AppToMarket resize the images. Before i use the AppToMarket tool the original apk (the images in it) just auto fit to the screen of the phone. After I use the AppToMarket they are just smaller and take only (let’s say) 60% of the phone screen. How can I fix that?

    Kind regards, Fabian

If you don’t have your cert, you are out of luck and there will be no way to recover. Check your recycle bin and see if the cert can be restored from there. BTW, when AppToMarket generates the cert for you, it displays a POP-UP saying that YOU SHOULD archive away your cert and how important it is to save away your password data (credentials) :o)

I love this app…I can get my app to upload ok but it never shows up in the marketplace even when it says its published…I’ve checked my phone and its compatible…when I tried to upload a different version with a different name an error came up in the marketplace developer console…and it told me to goto the application that created this file and update it from there. It showed me the path and AppInventor was in the path…part of the actual name of the file…..so I’m wondering if somehow I did something wrong and it didnt remove the old name inside the actual file and the marketplace wont actually show it?
    Please help and thanks again!

Jeff, sometimes Market takes a while to make the app visible in Market. Also, in Market, did you make your app ACTIVE? Please go to AI / AppToMarket forum HERE and provide the name of your app or post a message there and we can follow-up from there and check on our phone.

I’m wondering about the .ks (keystore) file that your application generates and the ability to use that keystore with the Android sdk and regular app development and signing. I created an app using App Inventor, but recently switch over to Exclipse. Will I be able to sign my new application with the same keystore file that I used with App Inventor. If not, how do I go about doing this?

what a truly great program !
    v2.3 is fantastic
I am a complete noob to Android and App Inventor and was amazed on reading some forums that it was such a bind to get an app to Market.

I tried some of the tutorials and “Marketizer” for hours on end with no succes until I found AppToMarket … wonderful !

then to cap it all Hossein was kind and patient enough to help me through stupid mistakes I made what a great and knowledgeable chap indeed.

Thanks for a really great tool, you are a life saver my friend.

Sorry for the noob question, but is there a way for you to implement a licensing feature (e.g. adding your public RSA key during the recompile process), or must appinventor integrate the LVL somehow?

    Thanks

One question for you as you seem very wise. Do you know how to fix the back button issues? If I use back to exit the app, it force closes on restart. This is an ai issue but do you know of some code you can add to fix this? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello,

This seemed very simple to use at first and I successfully got my app uploaded to the market quickly, but when I tried to download the app from the market, my T-mobile G2 says ‘Package file was not signed correctly” and doesn’t let me download it. On a friends phone the app downloaded but the sounds wouldn’t play… Any suggestions? The app worked great when I downloaded it straight from app inventor to my phone…

    Thanks in advance,

    • M. Hossein Amerkashi

Sorry GreenGrape, but its not possible. The reason is that the package name is tied to source-package name and if I change that, it will cause issue during run-time.

Good work, Hossein! Thanks to you our game has been downloaded and installed over 800 times in just 2 days.

Love AI except for two things, Market that you just solved and that you cannot make an app run as a service. I mean, so it does not suspend when the phone is going to sleep.
Do you have a way to solve this as well?
Maybe this is sutible for the next generation of AppToMarket.
Or, would it work to maka an app in AI, decompile it with your tool and then change something with Eclipse?

Can you please explain a bit the differences between these settings…

Also, how exactly does the screen size setting work?
Also, how exactly is Resizable=Yes different from Resizalble=No?

Regarding re-size, based on spec, if re-size is set to yes, then application should stretch to fit in larger screen displays.

I actually have VMWare running a version of XP so i tried it on that.

Unfortuneltly it wouldn’t run. Basically ApptoMarket would start up, i’d select my apk, and then it would freeze on decompile. Any ideas?

I was able to borrow a PC running windows 7 and it worked great. Any ideas on the VMWare issue? I’d love to figure it out for future use.

I just wanted to say thank you again for the wonderful app and you can be sure that my company will be donating first thing monday.

Over the past couple days I have been using an Amazing Program known as AppToMarket. It is free to download, free to use and BEST of all it does everything it is described to do, flawlessly….. period. The person who put together this program took the time to even Google Chat with me to set it up, and followed that Awesome Service up with a personal email to make sure I was happy with the program. In a world of Customer NO Service, it is just wonderful to find someone like this.

You can find this awesome program and exceptional Customer Service here at https://amerkashi.wordpress.com

Much to my surprise I managed to author a program in AppInventor. I successfully uploaded the apk having used your program to sign the apk.

I then made a modification to the program and re-signed the apk giving it a higher version number. When I try to upload the new apk I get a message ‘The apk must be signed with the same certificates as the previous version.’

I originally used ApptoMarket v1.3. I have also tried the latest version 1.6. The information I entered in the Certificate details is the same (I took a screenshot when I originally generated the passkey).

How do I find out the details of the original certificate? Any advice would be appreciated. Once I solve this I will donate. You have made a virtually incomprehensible process achievable for non programmers.

    Hi,

I too am having problems with the “Signing” step. My paths are all valid and everything works great up until I click the “Sign” button on the last tab. Then the program locks up. Any ideas what might be causing this?

    • M. Hossein Amerkashi

      February 21, 2011 at 9:16 pm

Jim, you mentioned that you were later able to use the AppToMarket to do conversion. Were you also able to publish successfully? Also, we performed a work-around for your specific issue. Can you also try AppToMarket v1.4 to see if you still get the same issue for your platform?

      • Jim Armstrong

        February 22, 2011 at 1:21 am

Version 1.4 worked perfectly. The only thing that is not working is the “portrait” locking feature. Also, it would be nice if you added a way to create the “versionname”. Currently the program makes the versionname the same as the versioncode. Most developers do not want these to be the same. For example, you may want Versioncode 13 to have a verisionname of 2.3. Otherwise super job!

      • Jim Armstrong

        February 23, 2011 at 10:38 am

Version 1.5 Looks Great! One more thing…AppInventor does not allow you give the App a name other than the filename you create. This is a problem when you upload to the market because your App name can’t have any spaces and does not look natural. If you could add the ability to specify an App Name and then update application android:label=”My App Name” in AndroidManifest.xml that would be another great feature.
Thanks for all the great work. I would encourage all users of this utility to please donate!!

Great, I’m glad its working-out for you to publish your app to Android Market.

I will add the capability so that AppToMarket will allow you to add a name for your app to overcome the limitation of AppInventor. I should have it done in a day and will publish it as a nightly build.

I thank you so much for your word of encouragement and passing the word about AppToMarket. I also thank you for the donation that you made. It takes a lot of time and effort to design and develop a useful tool and to provide continuous support. I have been spending less-time with my family and stay up till 3-4am on updates. But getting responses like yours and donations, makes it worth while.
          Thanks for your donation.

          Thanks again.

David, I looked into the log that you sent me. It looks like you missed the step in TAB2 (Certificate Details).
Since this step was not executed, it did not generate you keystore file.
This is a one-time step and you do not need to repeat every time for every new .apk file

    Hope this helps

having trouble started over completely with fresh install of your program fresh folders and files all the way around did the steps in order but when i get to sign step the program doesnt show the command being executed button is dark grey and shows depressed and then nothing happens it stays depressed and dark grey and log file gets no info sent to it this is what it shows me so far

      (SEE SENT LOG FILE)

that is last line even though i have clicked sign at this point
Regardless of wether you do or not I will be making a donation to you for this program as soon as I figure it out. Your the best.

        Hello,

Okay, I added some tight validations and should help and allow you to identify the issue.
I have expired the prior versions.

Please download a new version, run, and let me know how it goes.

Ensure that you have latest AppToDev Current version is 1.1 and shows-up in title bar. If title bar does not show that, download the newer version.

    Holy crap!

This is amazing what you have put forth to the the AI community.

When do you think you will have it available to use for imac users?
I’ve been frustrated for months, not being able to upload my hard work to the market.

Many Thanks and I’ll be more than happy to make a donation for your time once I’m able to use the mac version.

    Best

    Justin

Thank you Justin. I’m happy that you find the application useful.

Unfortunately, at this time, I don’t have a projected date for mac version but whenever time permits, I’ll try to implement the capability.

If you are are member at http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/forum/, your feedback there would be appreciated 🙂

Please don’t forget to download the new version.

      Regards,

James, Are you using AI? If so, since v1.25 it supports making .apk that is publishable to play store.

Wait. So App Inventor has a place to sign the apk now without App to Market? Would it be possible to make it so that the signing is the same as the apks I’ve already published on the Play Store using App to Market?
